Alexโs love of animals began at an early age. Growing up with a challenging dog, she began taking training classes to gain more confidence and control. As an adult she started volunteering in shelters and doing her own reading and research on the dogs mind and canine behavior. This is when the love affair with dogs truly began.
In 2011 she attended Triple Crown Academy (aka Star Mark Academy) where she learned to craft her skills. Alex learned everything from Basic Obedience, Canine Behavior, Agility, Scent Detection, Tracking and Protection work. TCA is where she obtained her certification as a Canine Training Specialist and Canine Behavior Specialist, as well as her dogs Roxee and Skylar (AKA Monkey and Pie)
After completing her schooling, Alex returned to Chicago where she worked as a Senior Kennel trainer and daycare handler. Specializing in board and trains as well as behavioral issues. Eventually this lead her to Anything is Pawzible where she trained for 10 years. At AIP she took the lead as their Senior Behavior Specialist and canine trainer. Alex developed a knack for working with dog reactivity and aggression performing mostly private sessions as well as group classes. Roxee and Skylar worked as her assistants for reactive dogs and demo dogs for group classes.
In 2020 Alex returned to Austin with Roxee and Skylar with the goal of helping Austin dogs and their owners to better understand them.
Both Roxee and Skylar passed away shortly after relocating to Austin. Prior to their passing they were well known in Chicago for their skills in helping other dogs with their reactivity and other struggles.
Monkey Pie is their legacy.
Alex created Monkey Pie Dog Training as a way to honor the dogs who started it all. We believe your dog is more than โjust a dogโ.
Monkey Pie strives to facilitate better communication and understanding of your dogs behavior, ultimately improving the relationship between dogs and their humans.
Alex now has a new dog named Strider who is working hard to fill his sisters shoes and carry on their legacy.
